EVANSVILLE, Ind. — The University of Evansville has moved up in the annual rankings published by US News & World Report.
UE was named the sixth best college in the Midwest in the annual Best Colleges ranking. The university moved up one place overall and has been in the top 10 for more than a decade, according to a release from UE.
The university's engineering and business programs, commitment to undergraduate teaching, its work with veterans and international students, and on study abroad and social mobility were also recognized by the report.
- The College of Engineering and Computer Science at UE moved up six spots from last year and was recognized as the No. 19 best engineering school among small private institutions in the country.
- The Schroeder School of Business was named the nation's No. 4 best undergraduate business school among small private institutions.
- UE's accounting program was ranked No. 3.
- The EU funding program was ranked No. 2 among small private colleges.
- UE was recognized as one of the best schools for undergraduate teaching for the first time this year. Schools ranked in this category are selected because they have “faculty with an unusually strong commitment to undergraduate teaching.”
- The University was recognized as the No. 5 best college for veterans in the Midwest
- UE was recognized as a top Midwest school for international students.
- UE was highlighted in the category, Best Study Abroad Programs to Look For. The methodology for this category states that “study abroad programs at these schools include significant academic work abroad for credit — a year, a semester, or a course-equivalent intensive experience — and significant interaction with the local culture.
- UE was also recognized as a top-performing Midwest school for social mobility. This category “measures how well students who received federal Pell grants graduated.” Pell Grant recipients typically come from households whose family income is less than $50,000 per year, although most Pell Grant money goes to students with a total family income of less than $20,000.
“The extraordinary dedication of our faculty is no secret to our students,” EU President Christopher M. Pietruskiewicz said in a press release. “EU faculty are extremely committed to student success, so it is especially exciting to be recognized nationally for that commitment.”

That the university's vice president of enrollment and marketing, Shane Davidson, is said to be nationally recognized in so many categories speaks to the caliber of the university's education and experience.
“We are particularly proud of our study abroad ranking, as our program at Harlaxton College is the cornerstone of the EU experience for so many of our students,” said Davidson.
The rankings are designed to help prospective students and their families evaluate college options and are available online at www.usnews.com/colleges.
