The publication notes some features that are said to be a first in the country
Shawnee County's Midwest Health Aquatic Center received feature coverage in World Waterpark Magazine, an international trade publication.
According to a news release from Shawnee County Parks and Recreation, the magazine notes features such as the bowtie wave pool, said to be the first in the nation, and the 35-foot slide structure.
Midwest Health gave $1 million to help maintain the center, the article noted.
“Participation in a trade magazine validates that we have truly created a recreation facility that offers a unique and exciting experience,” Terry Bertels, Shawnee County Parks and Recreation deputy director and project manager, said in the news release. “Being asked to share the construction and design of your facility with your peers is an acknowledgment that your aquatic center has some cutting edge features.”
The October-November issue of the magazine features aquatic centers in Turkey, Australia, Texas and Mississippi, the press release said.
