The fate of one of Indy's largest recreational sports complexes is unknown — pending a sale on the 62-acre site that features eight softball diamonds, eight beach volleyball courts and four league-sized soccer fields.
Midwest Sports Complex, 7509 New Augusta Road, went on the market in August 2017 for $4.95 million. The Realtor.com listing shows the site has a pending offer for $3.9 million.
While Midwest agent Josh Ember confirmed there was an “acceptable pending offer”, he said he could not provide details about the prospective buyer or the future use of the site.
Property details in the listing promote the 62 acres as “ideal for residential, multi-family or senior living. All utilities on site. 9-hole golf course on property and conservation on site. Pike Township Schools.”
When asked about the possibility that the pending buyer plans to tear down the athletic portions of the property and turn it into a retirement community, Ember said he could not disclose any information about the prospective buyer.
“Anytime you have big complex deals like this, there are a lot of variables,” said Ember, with FC Tucker. “Not until it's closed is it public.”
In addition to adult recreational leagues and tournaments for volleyball, softball, baseball, soccer and more, the Midwest hosts youth sporting events. Also features cornhole and kickball tournaments.
But it's not all physical play. In 2011, Midwest added a restaurant. The Fishbowl Pub today is a full service bar and grill.
IndyStar could not immediately reach the Midwest owner.
