MIDWEST CITY — Midwest City-Del City Public Schools will host open houses from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at four buildings that are closing.
East Side Elementary, 600 N Key Blvd.; Soldier Creek Elementary, 9021 SE 15; Sooner Rose Elementary, 5601 SE 15; and Traub Elementary, 6500 SE 15, will be open for tours, district spokeswoman Stacey Boyer said.
All four elementary schools will close their doors for good at the end of the school year. Students from these four school buildings will attend one of two new schools that will open in the fall.
A new Soldier Creek Elementary will be located near the current school, and Midwest City Elementary will be located behind East Side Elementary.
Boyer said the closings are due to a variety of reasons, including the significant deterioration of each building.
East Side Elementary was founded in 1946 shortly after Midwest City became a city and during a period of growth. Soldier Creek and Sooner Rose schools were established shortly after the 1889 Land Run.
Traub Elementary opened in 1953 on land donated by Oklahoma City District Judge Carl Traub to the growing school district.
School principals invite the public to walk the halls and learn the stories of the students, parents and teachers who went before them.
