Parts of the Midwest are at risk of severe weather this week, with scattered thunderstorms and some tornadoes possible starting Tuesday, forecasters said Sunday.
Parts of the Ozarks in the mid-Mississippi Valley and southwestern Great Lakes may experience “scattered strong to severe thunderstorms,” along with wind damage, hail and possible tornadoes beginning late Tuesday afternoon, the National Weather Service (NWS) said ) in a Sunday debate. That weather could extend into Tuesday night, forecasters added.
Some of the cities that could be affected by this weather include Chicago, Indianapolis, St. Louis and Fort Wayne, Ind., the Weather Service predicted.
The weather is expected to follow a storm that will cross the west on Sunday, FOX Weather reported. The storm is expected to bring heavy mountain snow and possible blizzard conditions before moving east into the Midwest on Tuesday, FOX Weather added.
“The middle part of our nation will be ready to deal with severe weather as this storm across the country moves east,” FOX Weather meteorologist Kendall Smith said Sunday.
FOX Weather estimates that more than 48 million people are at risk of severe weather.
The Weather Channel's chief meteorologist, Linda Lam, noted Sunday the specifics and dangers of the storm expected to change In the next few days.
FOX Weather reported that the severe weather threat was downgraded from earlier in the weekend, when forecasters initially predicted the threat would extend into Wednesday.
