DETROIT – Weather is expected to be relatively quiet across the eastern half of the U.S. this week, but the FOX Forecast Center is tracking a fast-moving cutting system that pushed through Canada and is bringing snow, freezing rain and rain to parts of the Midwest and Great Lakes on Tuesday.
It's not a powerful storm system, but the FOX Forecast Center said it has the potential to produce severe bursts of winter weather that could affect travel in the area.

The FOX Forecast Center noted that Michigan has the best chance of seeing accumulating snow, although it will be light.
As for snow totals, the FOX Forecast Center isn't expecting more than an inch or two in places like Saginaw and Detroit, Michigan.

A mix of rain, snow and freezing rain will spread south and west into Illinois, Indiana and Ohio throughout the day Tuesday.
By Tuesday night, precipitation is expected to reach central Appalachia, where the higher elevations will be cold enough to allow all the snow to remain.
There, comfortable travel conditions are expected for those who hit the roads on Tuesday night.

Snow is then expected to fall on Wednesday as the system continues to slide eastward, bringing rain to the mid-Atlantic Carolinas and Virginia.
The system is expected to move off the east coast by Wednesday night, ending the rain.
