University of Nebraska-Lincoln partners with SkillStorm to train tech talent across the Midwest
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) and technology talent training company SkillStorm have partnered to offer technology skills credential programs to upgrade the workforce across the state and the Midwest to provide a talent pool to meet the growing demand for technology jobs.
With the university research showing that only 5% of the state's workforce is employed in the technology industry, the partnership follows TechNebraskaa statewide initiative launched in 2023 by the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce, education and business leaders to promote technology careers and train the workforce to fill them.
UNL's partnership with SkillStorm will provide several courses leading to high-demand technology skills credentials, including AWS, Comp-TIA, Salesforce, Appian and Pega, the university said.
SkillStorm's website shows that its collaborative model training platform can be convened in 30 days and includes:
- A custom branded portal.
- Authorized trainers.
- Authorized content and workshops.
- Customized marketing materials. and
- File management.
The courses include project-based learning, live lectures, a fee voucher for certification exams and twice-weekly office hours, the company said.
“Our partnership is an opportunity for UNL to make an immediate and positive impact on a sector of the Nebraska economy that is poised for growth,” said Kevin Shriner, UNL assistant vice chancellor for digital and online learning. “It's a unique approach that will benefit both our students in their careers and today's workforce looking for new skills.”
“Too often, fast-growing businesses looking for talent are forced to look outside their region because the local workforce infrastructure isn't ready to support accelerating demand for skills in areas like technology,” said Joe Mitchell, COO at SkillStorm . “UNL is taking steps to change that narrative in Nebraska — building new pipelines of tech talent in ways that will support economic growth across the region.”
