The first President of the new Shannon University of Technology: Midlands Midwest was announced this morning.
Professor Vincent Cunnane, outgoing president of the Limerick Institute of Technology, will take up the new role when the TUI is established on the first of October.
The announcement was made this morning by Further and Higher Education Minister Simon Harris, who says Professor Cunnane's vast experience makes him perfectly placed to lead the new institution.
Following an application in 2020, Athlone Institute of Technology and Limerick IT sought designation as a university of technology, with a decision on the formation of the new TUI taking place in May 2021.
