The Better Business Bureau has revoked its accreditation for a Republic business, Midwest Exterior Products LLC, following violations of the BBB's accreditation agreement.
The BBB Executive Committee took action in February at the recommendation of the Standards and Compliance Committee. BBB accredited businesses are required to:
- Respond to customer complaints and BBB inquiries.
- Make a good faith effort to resolve complaints.
- Respect arbitration decisions.
- Advertise honestly.
Failure to follow these guidelines is considered “prejudicial to the best interests of BBB and private business.”
According to a press release, BBB contacted the Republic contractor on “multiple” occasions between September 2023 and January 2024 regarding a customer complaint. The customer claimed that he did not start a project and did not give a refund. The BBB asked Midwest Exterior Products for its waiver as a BBB Accredited Business, but the company did not provide it.
Midwest Exterior Products does not have a BBB rating and the BBB says Midwest Exterior Products is believed to be out of business. Mail sent to the business in February was returned by the US Postal Service, according to its BBB online profile.
A complainant commented on the business' BBB online profile in September that they billed Midwest Exterior Products more than $26,000 for materials and labor over two payments. The commenter said the contractor never showed up again after the materials were delivered and the place of business was closed and empty when they visited.
“The company and I have not reached any kind of resolution or contacted the business,” the commenter wrote on January 18, 2024.
The News-Leader could not immediately reach a Midwest Exterior Products representative for comment. BBB lists the business owner as Greg Brown and the business manager as Tara Brown.
