Shame on UMN Vice President Croson for meeting with Israel's Consul General in the Midwest!
Fight Back News is releasing the following statement from the University of Minnesota Students for a Democratic Society (SDS).
SDS and Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) have just been informed that Israeli Consul General Yinam Cohen is reportedly meeting with University of Minnesota Vice President Croson along with a group of Zionist community leaders. Considering several factors: the climate of suppression of pro-Palestinian activism on campus, the genocide perpetrated by the illegal Israeli occupation, and an ongoing Department of Education investigation into false claims of anti-Semitism, this meeting is shameful complicity in Israel's crimes. .
Any cooperation of the administration with representatives of the settler state of Israel is shameful. SDS and SJP fully condemn this reported meeting, as well as all UMN partnerships with Israeli Universities, study abroad trips to Israel, and investments in entities that benefit from the occupation. Vice President Croson will meet with an Israeli representative at the same time that the IOF is bombing millions of Palestinians in Rafah and Palestinian Muslims are being prevented from praying at the Al-Aqsa Mosque during the first days of Ramadan. These crimes are paid for by investments like those of the UMN in arms companies and Israel-linked entities.
This meeting may also have further implications for increased levels of repression of students and faculty for their activism on campus. Israel is known for its aggressive crackdown on Palestine solidarity activism abroad. this meeting will certainly have far-reaching implications for activists organizing on campus. Any attempts by the administration, alone or with the Israeli government, to suppress our Palestinian solidarity movements will be strongly resisted.
