Shotgun sports placed second overall at the ACUI/SCTP Central Midwest Conference Championships, Oct. 13-15 at the World Shooting Range and Recreation Complex in Sparta, Illinois. The Lions hit a total of 2,171 of 2,250 targets to finish just four behind event champions Hillsdale College. Lindenwood won two of six team events, took second in three events and finished third in the weekend's final event with multiple athletes earning individual medals.
The Lions took second in Doubles Skeet, finishing two goals behind Hillsdale with a total of 243/250. Wyatt Williams (50), Reece Sparks (49), Grace Corselli (48), Matthew Blankenship (48) and Matthew Lorio (48) all contributed scores for Lindenwood. Individually, Williams placed second in the men's division after a shoot-off with Hillsdale's Davis Hay.
The Lions won the Double Trap event with a score of 243/250. Jacob Diller (49), Samuel Gilman (49), White Quick (49), Landon Shivers (48), and Matthew Keast (48) contributed scores to secure the victory. Individually, Diller and Gilman placed second and third respectively with scores of 49.
In Super-Sporting, Ben Warwick (49), Jake Dean (48), Christian Jackowsky (48), Sparks (48) and Trace Hatfield (47) carded a 240 total to take second as a team for Lindenwood. The Lions were just one goal away from Hillsdale. Individually, Corselli scored 46 out of 50 to finish as the women's runner-up.
Lindenwood took the Sporting Clays team title with Deane (95), Brett Pry (92), Connor Vohs (92), Lorio (92), and Ryan Pena (91) combined for a score of 462. Individually, Dean tied with Davies Hay for second and eventually won that position after a shoot-off. Corselli shot an 89 to take second place in the Ladies.
In American Skeet, Pena (99), Vohs (98), Sparks (98), Quick (98) and Vanessa Donato (97) combined for 490 to take second in the team. Individually, Pena and Donato finished third in the men's and women's competition respectively after shoot-offs.
The Lions finished third in the American Trap with Hatfield (100), Tristan Stubbs (99), Quick (99), Clayton McGee (98) and Diller (97) combining for 493/500. Individually, Hatfield tied for first place with three other athletes and eventually took third after a shoot-off.
The ACUI Central Midwest Conference Championships are part of the Collegiate Shotgun Bowl Series and featured 24 teams from the region.
Shotgun sports travel to San Antonio, Texas for the NSCA National Championships October 21-24 at the National Shooting Range.
